Who started the rickrolling meme

Reddit vs. CNN How the big meme war came about

content

There is war on the net: The dispute between CNN and the subreddit The_Donald escalated within a few hours in the week after Trump's whipping video tweet. Since then, one meme has been chasing the other. A record of madness.

Yes, that's what you call war. A Reddit mob gone wild has been trying for days by all means to really pee on the leg of the news channel CNN. The thing is: CNN isn't acting particularly exemplary in the beef either. But one after anonther. It all started with this tweet from Donald Trump:

Donald Trump blows out an offensive tweet. Well, nothing special. But this clip is a next-level Trump tweet. The footage comes from an old wrestling appearance by the president. Unsurprisingly, CNN doesn't like that at all. And everyone doesn't like it at all, they just kind of like the concept Freedom of the press believe.

Escalation level I: search for clues

All traces lead to reddit, to the user "HanAssholeSolo". In the meantime he has beheaded the bubbly and posts it here: "Holy shit !! I wake up and have my morning coffee and who retweets my s — post but the MAGA EMPORER himself !!! I am honored !!"

Emperor? Wait a minute, wasn't there something ...? Right, Donald Trump is only mentioned in a particularly shitty corner of the Internet: in the subreddit The_Donald. This is the home of hardcore trump fans and trolls who know that their mental diarrhea has a chance of real success from here. And surprise: "HanAssholeSolo" also likes to dump broken thoughts on the Internet. His range includes racist, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic comments and memes.

Escalation level II: A troll gives up

The hours go by, the public pressure on him rises and rises and rises ... and then it becomes too much for "HanAssholeSolo". He posts an apology of around 3,000 characters in the subreddit The_Donald. About not wanting to be that kind of person. That he totally rejects violence. That trolling was an addiction for him:

Then "HanAssholeSolo" deletes his profile.

Escalation level III: What you say and what you mean

CNN makes the story big and champagne corks pop again because The_Donald has not been the talk of the town for a long time. CNN publishes an interview with the purified troll - just the wording, that's a bit ... unfortunate. CNN writes: The troll should remain anonymous because he has seen his mistakes. CNN then wrote: "CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change." After that, CNN had to clarify what was meant by the sentence, namely: "CNN decided not to publish the name of the Reddit user out of concern for his safety."

Aaah ... hmm ... stupid that the matter is already clear to reddit. Here they agree that CNN is trying to make the puppets dance. The users keep posting memes that make fun of CNN. A hashtag campaign is even being launched to persuade all of CNN's advertising partners to end their collaboration.

Oh, by the way, the White House doesn't say anything about the whole thing. At least you can still rely on that.
