First broadcast on Thursday, December 6, 2018, 8.15 p.m.

Gemstones born from volcanoes: how does it work? What drives astronauts into a lonely Ries in the Swabian Alb? What secrets does the foothills of the Alps hide under its green surface, and what does a mud pack have to do with the landscape on the southern Upper Rhine?

Biologist Lena Ganschow and weather moderator Sven Plöger go on a discovery tour through the Nördlinger Ries, the Hunsrück, the Allgäu and the Kaiserstuhl in "Wissen aktuell: Traces in the stone" on Thursday, December 6th, 8:15 pm. In doing so, the two of them make amazing discoveries and show how the natural resources there have affected people's lives - and still do today. "Wissen aktuell" has read the "new" tracks in the stone and unearthed surprising things.
