What is it and what is it used for?

Cyklokapron is used to treat and prevent bleeding due to increased dissolution of blood clots (increased fibrinolysis or fibrinogenolysis). The active ingredient contained is Tranexamic acid.

What is it and what is it used for?

Cyklokapron is used to treat and prevent bleeding due to increased dissolution of blood clots (increased fibrinolysis or fibrinogenolysis).

The areas of application are:

  • Too much or too long menstrual bleeding in women (hypermenorrhea)

What do you need to consider before use?

Cyklokapron film-coated tablets must not be taken

  • if you are allergic to tranexamic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
  • if you have severe kidney problems
  • if you have or have had an acute thromboembolic disease (blood clot) such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or brain thrombosis
  • if you have a certain blood clotting disorder (consumption coagulopathy)
  • if you have a history of seizures

Warnings and Precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Cyklokapron.

  • If thromboembolic events have already occurred in your family (patients with thrombophilia), Cyklokapron may only be used with strict indications and careful medical supervision by an experienced doctor.
  • When bleeding from the upper urinary tract, blood clots can in rare cases lead to an occlusion of the ureters (ureteral obstruction).
  • Treatment of congenital angioedema with Cyklokapron may only be carried out in cooperation with a doctor who is experienced in the treatment of this clinical picture.
  • Patients with irregular menstrual periods should only use Cyklokapron after the cause of the bleeding has been clarified.

If the strength of the menstrual period does not decrease after treatment with Cyklokapron, ask your doctor, he may change the therapy.

  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems. Your doctor will adjust the dose.
  • Any long-term use of Cyklokapron film-coated tablets should only be carried out under supervision or after consultation with an experienced doctor.
  • If you use Cyklokapron over a long period of time, your color vision may be impaired. If you experience such disorders, inform your doctor as the treatment may have to be stopped.
  • Before and during continuous long-term use of Cyklokapron film-coated tablets (use over several weeks to months), you should have regular eye examinations (including eyesight, color vision, fundus, field of vision, etc.) performed.
  • Seizures have been reported in association with tranexamic acid therapy.

Children and adolescents

There is no experience with Cyklokapron film-coated tablets in the treatment of children and adolescents under 15 years of age with heavy menstrual bleeding (hypermenorrhea).

Other medicines and Cyklokapron film-coated tablets

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using, have recently taken / used, or may take / use any other medicines.

Tell your doctor if you are taking anticoagulants, as these counteract the effects of Cyklokapron.

Talk to your doctor if you are taking oral contraceptives ("pill"), as this increases the risk of thrombosis (formation of blood clots in blood vessels).

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you suspect you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Your doctor will decide on the use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

No effects on the ability to drive or use machines have been observed.

How is it used?

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is:

Standard dosage: 2 to 3 times a day 2 to 3 Cyklokapron film-coated tablets.

For the following areas of application:

  1. Hypermenorrhea (excessive menstrual bleeding)
    The recommended dosage is 2-3 film-coated tablets 3 to 4 times a day for 3 to 4 days. If you have very heavy menstrual bleeding, your doctor can increase the dose; the maximum daily dose of 8 film-coated tablets must not be exceeded. Treatment with Cyklokapron film-coated tablets should be started immediately after the heavy bleeding has started.
  2. Severe nosebleed
    To prevent or reduce severe nosebleeds, 2 film-coated tablets 3 times a day for 4 to 10 days.
  1. Prevention of rebleeding in traumatic hyphaema (blunt eyeball injury)
    2 - 3 film-coated tablets 3 times a day for 7 days.
  2. After prostatectomy (removal of the prostate gland)
    Following intravenous treatment: 2 to 3 times a day 2 to 3 Cyklokapron film-coated tablets for 7 days.
  3. Bleeding after conization of the cervix (operation on the cervix of the uterus) 3 film-coated tablets 3 times a day for 12-14 days after the operation.
  4. Tooth extraction in patients with haemophilia ("blood disease")
    After the initial intravenous treatment: 2-4 tablets 3 to 4 times a day (1 Cyklokapron film-coated tablet per 20 kg body weight) for 6 to 8 days.
  5. Hereditary angioedema (hereditary disease with a tendency to swell the skin and mucous membranes)
    The dose is usually 2 to 3 Cyklokapron film-coated tablets 2 to 3 times a day.

Dosage in patients with impaired renal function

If you have impaired kidney function, your doctor will prescribe lower doses for you.

Use in children and adolescents

Your doctor will decide on the use and dosage in children and adolescents.

The film-coated tablet should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid (e.g. a glass of water). It can be taken independently of meals.

If you take more Cyklokapron film-coated tablets than you should

The following symptoms may occur in the event of an overdose: nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, dizziness after getting up, low blood pressure and seizures.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Continue with the prescribed dosage for the next dose.

If you stop taking Cyklokapron film-coated tablets

Do not stop taking Cyklokapron without talking to your doctor. The symptoms of the disease may get worse or come back.

What Cyklokapron film-coated tablets contain

The active ingredient is: tranexamic acid

1 film-coated tablet contains 500 mg tranexamic acid

White, oblong, film-coated tablets, scored on one side and debossed with “CY” on the other side.

Cyklokapron film-coated tablets are available in plastic containers with screw caps and in blister packs of 20 film-coated tablets and 100 film-coated tablets.
